Teen Poetry Contest

The Moline Public Library is holding a Poetry Writing Contest for teens in grades 6 through 12 to celebrate National Poetry Month in April. Teens are invited to submit one original poem of up to 25 lines. All entries will be checked for plagiarism and appropriate content. Prizes will be awarded in two categories: grades 6-8 and grades 9-12. First place in each category will win a $25 Border’s gift card. Second place will win a $15 card and third place a $10 card.

The entry form is avaiable here. Submissions should be turned in to the Moline Public Library no later than Wednesday, April 20, 2011. Contestants should write their name on the bottom of the form only and will be assigned an entry number so that all submissions can be judged anonymously.

On Saturday, April 30 the Library will host an Awards Ceremony and Poetry Café at 10:00. Prizes will be given to the winners and all contestants will have a chance to read their poems. Light refreshments will also be served.
