A Librarian Reads…

Coaltown Jesus by Ron Koertge

It’s been two months since Walker’s brother Noah died, and all he wants is for someone to help his mother be less sad. So he prays. And Jesus shows up. As Walker and Jesus go about town, eating ice cream, playing basketball, and talking to people, Walker opens up about what happened to Noah. Not just how he died, but how he lived—and the effect of his life on those around him. Walker wishes Jesus would just hurry up and fix his mom, but the Lord works in mysterious ways.

This short novel in verse takes a unique view of what Jesus might be like today. The lives of Walker and his family are explored with sympathy and sensitivity. Recommended for junior high and up.
