Yaqui Delgado Wants to Kick Your Ass by Meg Medina

Piddy Sanchez has only been at her new school when a girl she’s never met informs her that Yaqui Delgado is out to get her. Piddy doesn’t even know who Yaqui is, and tries to ignore the threat. But as she finds herself the victim of increasing levels of bullying and violence, she has to admit that she’s in more danger than she can handle. With her mother keeping secrets about their past, her best friend moved away and settling in with a new group of friends, and her new friends pulling away from her, Piddy has nowhere to turn to help.

This is an honest and heartbreaking look at the way bullying can escalate to the point of irreparable harm, but also about learning to trust and hope. Recommended for high school and up.
