A Librarian Reads…

The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale

Ani isn’t a very good princess. She would rather talk to birds and ride her horse than attend balls and rule over people. But she does her duty. So when her mother announces she is being sent away to marry a foreign prince instead of inheriting the crown, she does as told. Along with her lady in waiting and best friend, Selia, and a troop of 50 guards, Ani sets out on the six month journey. But from the very start something feels strange. Selia and some of the guards seem too close, always conspiring and keeping her at a distance. The closer they get to Bayern the worse things get, but Ani doesn’t see the danger until it’s too late.

This fantasy takes a while to get going, but when it does you won’t be able to put it down until the last page. Recommended for junior high and up. Look for other books in the Books of Bayern series also.
