A Librarian Reads…

The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner

Gen can steal anything…except himself. He doesn’t know how long he’s been in prison since stealing the king’s seal and getting caught bragging about it to the wrong person. But it’s been more than long enough by the time someone comes to get him. The king’s magus has a job for him. If he agrees to steal something the king needs, he will be freed. Refusing is not an option. So he sets off with the magus, his two apprentices, and a soldier across Sounis, through Eddis, and into the enemy country of Attolia, where Gen will have the chance to earn his freedom or die trying. Along the way they share stories of the gods and their own lives, and learn to at least respect, if not like each other. Which is a good thing, because when the Queen of Attolia learns where they are and what they are after all of their lives are in danger.

Recommended for fans of fantasy and adventure in grades 4 and up.
