A Librarian Reads…

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

Celia and Marco, two young illusionists, are pitted in a magical duel that will result in one of their deaths.  They unknowingly participate, developing their magical skills, while never seeing their opponent. The setting of their competition is the Cirque des Reves (Circus of Dreams), which travels the world, appearing and disappearing with no notice.  The pair eventually meet, and through their refusal to continue the game, risk their lives and the existence of the circus. The story of Celia and Marco is gripping, but readers will also be mesmerized by the other members of the circus and Bailey, a boy whose fascination with the circus draws him into their world.

This is a truly magical book. Recommended for junior high and up.
