A Librarian Reads…

This One Summer by Mariko Tamaki and Jillian Tamaki

This graphic novel follows Rose as she settles into her family’s annual trip to their cabin at Awago Beach. Hanging out with her summer friend Windy, swimming at the beach, and crushing on Dunc, the boy who works at the store, are familiar. But under the surface everything is different. Rose’s mother seems determined not to have a good time. Her parents fight. Windy doesn’t understand that Rose doesn’t want to be a little kid anymore. And something is going on with Dunc that makes Rose question her place in the world.

A captivating story about finding your place in the world, this book is recommended for middle school and up.
