A Librarian Reads…

Pointe by Brandy Colbert

Four years ago, Theo’s best friend Donovan disappeared just weeks after her boyfriend left without saying goodbye. Since then she’s focused on her ballet, battled anorexia, and spent more time partying. But nothing could prepare her for Donovan’s return—and discovering that his abductor was her ex-boyfriend. For years she’s kept the secret that she was in a relationship with Trent, who was 18 to her 13. Now she has to face the fact that her boyfriend was really Chris, and he was actually 26. The guilt that she didn’t know who he was or what he was planning is eating Theo alive and causing her to take up bad habits again. What will people say when they discover the truth about her?

Though slightly uneven, this is an important story about abuse, secrets, and the effects they can have. Recommended for high school and up.
