A Librarian Reads…

Exit, Pursued by a Bear by E.K. Johnston

Hermione Winters is a cheerleader in a small Canadian town where cheerleading is the biggest sport. They don’t just cheer at games but compete nationally. Part of their success is due to the annual cheer camp the school sends them to each summer. As co-captain in her last year of high school, Hermione knows this camp will be bittersweet. But when she wakes up in a hospital after the end-of-camp dance and learns she was drugged and raped, her entire senior year becomes a challenge. Luckily she has a great support system in her best friend, Polly, her parents, and her team. And she’ll need them when the rumors and accusations start to fly. Hermione is a cheerleader—not a victim.

Recommended for grades 10 and up due to mature themes like rape, abortion, and victim-blaming.
