A Librarian Reads…

Assassin’s Heart by Sarah Ahiers

Lea Saldana is a killer. In the kingdom of Lovero, however, this is an envious position. As worshipers of Safraella, the goddess of death and resurrection, people do not fear death, and respect those who bring it about. A member of the first of the nine Families of clippers, Lea is very good at what she does. So is her suitor, Val Da Via. They would make a great team, if not for the feud between their families. When Lea wakes in the middle of the night to find her home on fire and her family slaughtered, she knows she has been betrayed by Val. Now she is completely alone and on the run. The only thing that keeps her going is her vow to avenge her family’s murders and atone for her guilt. And that means seeking out her uncle, exiled years before she was born.

Lea is a strong and intelligent character who is dedicated to her family, her way of life, and her faith. With adventure, mystery, and romance, this book has something for everyone. Recommended for high school and up.
