Just a Girl by Carrie Mesrobian
Rianne’s life has always been pretty simple: hanging out with her three best friends, hooking up with guys for fun, and avoiding any real responsibility. But halfway through senior year, everything starts to change. One of her friends is slowly distancing herself from the group. Another is reconsidering their post-high school plans together. Her relationship with Luke Pinsky is turning into a real relationship. Oh, yeah, and her dad is back in town rekindling his relationship with Rianne’s mom. Despite all the stress and confusion, one thing keeps Rianne grounded—the Russian guy, Sergei. She knows he’s all wrong, but why does even just thinking about him make her feel all right?
Rianne is a complicated character who makes some questionable choices in her life. But she is also a loyal friend and true to herself as she grapples with the world’s expectations of what a “good girl” is supposed to be. Recommended for mature readers in grades 11 and up.
