A Librarian Reads…

Onyx and Ivory by Mindee Arnett

Kate is a rider for the royal courier service. It’s not the life she imagined for herself. Once she the daughter of a minor noble who was stablemaster to the king. That all changed the day her father tried to kill the king. Now she’s a traitor too, for refusing to renounce her father. She’s managed to carve out a life, and at least she gets to work with horses. The long rides between cities even give her a chance to use her gift of animal magic safely, without risk of being discovered as a wilder. But everything changes the day Corwin, the king’s younger son and Kate’s former love interest, crashes back into her life. Despite her better judgment, Kate agrees to join him as he seeks to find out who is responsible for the attacks on the kingdom.

A great fantasy setting with a little romance and a lot of action, this book is recommended for readers in high school and up.
