A Librarian Reads…

Nikki on the Line by Barbara Carroll Roberts

Nikki loves basketball more than almost anything in her life. She’s always been the star of her county league teams, coached by her best friend Adria’s dad. Now they’re trying out for a club team. It’s a great opportunity for Nikki to step up her game, learn the skills she needs to get onto a high school team, and compete with other girls who love basketball as much as she does. But the change is harder than she expects. Not only does she have to learn a new position, for the first time on her life she’s not the best player on the team. As if that all weren’t enough, a genetics project leads to questions about her father, Adria starts spending more time with their new friend Kate, and a boy named Booker starts taking an interest in Nikki.

This amazing book has something for everyone…a little bit of family drama, a little bit of friendship drama, a little bit of romance drama, and a whole lot of basketball. Highly recommended for readers in middle school and up who enjoy stories about strong female characters and basketball.
