Made You Up by Francesca Zappia
Alex is nervous about starting her senior year at a new school. Anyone would be. But it’s worse for Alex because of the incident that caused her to have to go to a new school, and the reason behind the incident—she is schizophrenic. Fortunately she made a friend at work over summer, and Tucker has been helping prepare her for the oddity that is East Shoal High School. Except nothing can really prepare Alex for a reality that is even stranger than her hallucinations. Especially Miles, to whom she is both drawn and repelled by. And the feeling seems mutual. As the year goes on, however, she discovers there is more to Miles than she thought—and there is definitely something very, very wrong going on at her new school.
While Alex is an unreliable narrator, she is completely honest about her hopes and fears. This is an insightful glimpse into the mind of someone who cannot trust anything and yet desperately wants to. Recommended for readers in high school and up.
