A Librarian Reads…

Sanctuary Somewhere by Brenna Dimmig

As he gets ready to begin his senior year, Osmel is looking forward to going to college to study meteorology. But at his younger sister’s birthday party he learns a terrible secret: most of his family is undocumented. The only citizen in the family is his sister. As he moves through his senior year, he begins to worry about what this means for him. Will he even be able to go to college? Will he or someone he loves get sent away? And if so, what will happen to his sister?

This slim novel in verse gives a brief glimpse into the fear and uncertainty felt by the over 10 million undocumented immigrants in the United States as they strive to achieve the better life they came here to find. Recommended to readers in high school and up.
