Teen Poetry Contest
Entries for the Moline Public Library’s Poetry Contest are due Friday, April 10, 2015. Students in grades 6-12 can submit one (1) original poem in the category of short (up to 12 lines) or long (up to 25 lines). Prizes will be $25, $15, and $10 gift certificates for first, second, and third places in each category. All poets are invited to the Awards Ceremony and Poetry Café on Thursday, April 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room at the Moline Public Library. Poets can read their poems and prizes will be awarded. Entry forms are available at the Library or here.

Teens and Tweens in grades 5 and up can take part in a Graphic Novel Workshop hosted by the Moline Public Library. This workshop is part of “Project Next Generation: Dream, Design, Deliver,” and will introduce students to the history of cartooning, creating a comic strip, publishing, and more. Sessions will take place on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m.to 12:30 p.m. starting January 24 and concluding April 11. Attendance at all sessions is recommended. This program is free and no experience is necessary, but space is limited and registration is required. Bus passes will be available to registered participants.

Date Safe: Teen Dating Violence Class is a class that parents and teens (ages 12-17) will take together. We will be learning about the dynamics of teen dating violence. We will discuss awareness, prevention and intervention aspects, and what healthy relationships look like. Part of the class time the parents and teens will be separated to foster open discussion and a customized presentation. The class will be led by Chassity Morse of Army Community Service. Registration is required and a minimum sign-up is needed to hold the class.
